Specific Detail Info | Design for Manufacture (DfM) is one of approach in product design development. It is integration of art design, material and process choosing in quality consideration. Gear Transmission Box (GTB) component of hand tractor is one of main component that compile hand tractor. In Hand Tractor Type TRG 1000 produced by PT Agrindo, GTB is base component, other components are connected to it. It was produced in combination of casting-machining process. The casting process is produced by other company (subcontracting) and its products come in Department of Engineering in a state of ready for machining. Its manufacturing cost is the second highest that cause high production cost. Currently, PT Agrindo wants to use its production machines and facilities for GTB processing without subcontracting. To solve it, development or redesign of fabrication is needed. One criteria of the new design is using the facilities in shop floor. To design the GTB, load and force it detained have to be known, and than create alternatives design and process using DfM approach that yield cheaper design but still strong enough for detaining operation load. In this research, two alternatives designs are considered, after that manufacturing cost is calculated. Both designs use St 37 plate as base material and combination plate metal forming, welding and machining as basic process. Analytical Hierarchy Process is used to choose one of three alternatives (initial design, Design 1 and Design 2). From this research, it can be concluded that in design stage, there are potential developments that make production cost cheaper. The First redesign reduces manufacturing cost 24.3%, and the second 19,2%. Based on AHP, The Best Design is Design 1. Kew Word: Design for manufacture, manufacturing cost, load analysis. |
