Abstract/Notes | |
Specific Detail Info | In the methodology of shift work scheduling. In order to meet the comprehensive results in the process of the scheduling it is vital to consider both the factors that derived from qualitative and quantitative factors of the circumstances (nurse characteristics, opinion, age, sex, sleepiness index and typical work constraints). One of the main factors of consideration in shift scheduling is not only how to maintain fair coverage on the schedule but also how ergonomic the schedule will become. One of the qualitative factors that will be assessed in this research is sleepiness issue; the instrument of pitssburgh sleep quality index can be adapted to cope with this objective. While the quantitative factors will be addresses under several constraints, considered here are the minimum and maximum numbers of consecutive work days, the minimum and maximum number of consecutive days off, etc. The cyclic nurse scheduling method of Rosenbloom, E.S. and Goertzen, N.F. (1987) can be adapted to deal with these circumstances. Results include the actual schedules of each individual nurses and its comparison and evaluation with the existing schedules from the facility. Keywords: Circadian rhythms, shift scheduling, sleepiness issues, cyclic nurse scheduling, pitssburgh sleep quality index |
